Probably you know that before you go to your consular health check, you must be aware of the vaccination requirements for the American residency visa. But do you know that during your appointment at Clínica Médica Internacional, your immunization history is validated there? Well, yes! It is great to know that it meets the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) standards.
As you can probably imagine, the Mexican immunization scheme differs from that of the USA. Now then, to obtain an American Permanent Residence Visa, you must comply with the current international protocol.
Mandatory vaccination requirements for the American residency visa by age group
The vaccination requirements for the American residency visa are part of the consular medical check. When you get to this section, your nurse will review your evidence of previous shots. If you miss any doses or boosters, you will receive them the same day at an additional cost.
Of course, you must bring your original vaccination card or an official document on the day of your meeting. It lets us validate it.
- For infants born up to 6 years old, the necessary immunizations are: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Pneumococcus, Rotavirus, Seasonal Influenza, MMR, and Chickenpox.
- For children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 years, they are Tdap or its booster, Meningococcal (MCV4), and MMR (Chickenpox). Hepatitis A and B, and seasonal influenza
- For adults aged 19 to 64, MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella), Hepatitis B, and Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) are obligatory. Chickenpox and seasonal influenza.
- For older adults over 65 years of age, the needed immunization doses are Pneumococcus, rotavirus, chickenpox, Tdap, and influenza, depending on the season.
Hepatitis B doses are currently mandatory for all adults up to age 59. If you have never had it, at least the first dose of the series is necessary to proceed. On the other hand, if your health checkup occurs between September 1 and March 31, the flu vaccine is mandatory.
How to validate your vaccine certificates at CMI?
For CMI’s qualified personnel to certify that you have the necessary vaccines to comply with the schedule needed by the United States and, in this way, do not represent a public health risk, you must present legal documents such as the national vaccination card; notes on simple sheets or informal health prescriptions are not accepted.
If your records are incomplete, the clinic will administer any missing doses during the immigration medical exam. Each one applied has an additional cost to the exam. You need to bring some documents as legal proof to validate the process for the American residence visa.
- Vaccination card. An official record issued by the health authority of your country that indicates the doses you have received. It must include personal data, the institution’s stamp, and the lot number to reinforce its legality.
- Digital Certificates. If you have records from different countries or clinics, try to consolidate them into a single official document. Make sure each one has the stamp and signature of the professional who gave the dose.
- Antibody titers. If you’ve lost your childhood records or aren’t sure if you’ve received certain vaccines, immigration law allows validation through blood tests called IgG titers.
In case you have been inoculated in the private sector, the document must be formal. Notes on plain sheets, blurred copies, or prescriptions without context are not accepted.
Pending vaccinations during your appointment in Ciudad Juárez
If your records are incomplete, at Clínica Médica Internacional, we apply the missing doses during the same immigration medical exam.
Our team will review your particular case and apply only what is strictly necessary to comply with the CDC schedule. Keep in mind that some inoculations require multiple doses for your outline to be considered complete. Vaccination administration has an additional cost to the consular medical exam.
Medical exemptions and health requirements for vaccination for the American visa
As you might imagine, there are some special cases of vaccination requirements for the American residency visa. Well then, physicians authorized by the American Consulate at Clínica Médica Internacional may grant a General Exemption in specific situations where inoculation is not possible:
- Medical Contraindications: Severe allergies to certain components or pre-existing health conditions. (Obviously, it is necessary to present proof that supports the diagnosis.)
- Pregnancy: Women in this condition can not receive live virus inoculation (such as MMR or Chickenpox). In this case, naturally, you will need to present a letter from your treating doctor explaining the diagnosis.
The clinic doctor will note the contraindication on your health form, allowing your consular processing to proceed smoothly.
