If you come for your consular medical exam, follow these 6 key recommendations to make your appointment as comfortable as possible. It’s not just a routine checkup; it’s about logistics that, of course, require planning.

Here we explain how to prepare for that significant day. So, pay attention to these tips about what to wear, how to get there, and what to eat for breakfast so your process flows well.

1. Wear comfortable and easy clothing to take off  for your consular medical exam

During the consular medical exam at Clínica Médica Internacional, a chest x-ray will be taken, blood drawn, and, if necessary, vaccines administered. To speed up the general physical examination during your consular medical exam, it is recommended that you wear comfortable clothes.

For a proper exam, you will need to remove your clothes for part of the exam. You will not be fully exposed, your underwear will remain on, and you will be provided with a gown to cover yourself. To make the process easier, we recommend wearing clothing that is easy to remove and put back on.

We suggest you avoid complicated dresses, jumpsuits, or shirts with too many buttons. Ideally, wear comfortable cotton clothing or a sweatshirt that you can take off easily.

2. Avoid wearing jewelry and metal items for X-ray taking at Clínica Médica Internacional

For the chest X-ray, our medical staff will ask you to remove any metal objects you are wearing. If you can, come without using chains, necklaces, or complicated piercings; you will save time and, best of all, avoid risks.

Although you will be provided with a tray to place your jewelry on during the process, it is best not to bring small items to the appointment. These items could fall, get lost, or cause interference to the image.

A better option is to leave your accessories at the hotel or wherever you are staying. Likewise, taking an X-ray and a check-up in general will be much simpler and more comfortable for everyone. In this way, the consular medical examination at Clínica Médica Internacional will be expedited.

3. Check the weather in Ciudad Juárez

Ciudad Juárez has a climate of extreme contrasts that you should not underestimate when coming for your consular medical exam. As a desert region, the weather can be your best ally or your worst enemy if you are not prepared.

  • In winter, between November and March, mornings can be very cold, even with temperatures below freezing.
  • In summer, the heat of the season is dry and scorching in the months of May to September. By this time of year, temperatures easily exceed 40 °C.

The idea is that you check the weather forecast a few days before the consular appointment. In Ciudad Juárez, the wind can change quickly. If you see that there will be wind, be prepared for dust. If there is a chance of rain, remember that the streets near the clinic can have rapid flooding.

4. Do not stop taking your medication

Doctors need to assess your current health with the active treatment you’re taking. It is advisable to bring your medications, prescriptions, or a letter from your doctor to inform our doctors of any active treatment you need to continue, rather than stopping it.

5. Have a light breakfast (do not fast)

One of the most frequently asked questions by applicants is: Should I fast for the consular medical exam? The answer is no. Total fasting is not necessary.

The process at Clínica Médica Internacional can take between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the flow of people. An empty stomach can cause dizziness when drawing blood or weakness.

So, on the morning of your consular appointment, you can have a light breakfast to keep your energy up. You don’t want to feel unwell in the middle of the medical check-up due to a lack of food in your stomach.

Drink water during the process; Being well hydrated helps make your veins more visible to the blood test. This makes the process less painful and faster to perform.

6. Schedule your free transportation at CMI: a benefit for all our applicants

Clínica Médica Internacional offers a free shuttle service for all our applicants. The transfers we offer include attention from your arrival in Ciudad Juárez from the airport or Central Camionera, to take you to your place of lodging, or directly to our clinic for your exams, if your arrival time coincides with the hours of testing, which are Monday through Friday from 6:00 to 11:00 A.M.
